If your computer does not have an inbuilt infrared
then you will require an infrared adaptor to download information from
your pump.
There are numerous brands of infrared wireless adaptors on the market.
Some of which may not work with CoZmanager and the Cozmo pump.
One known brand of infrared adaptors that does work with the CoZmanager
and the Cozmo pump is the "USB-IrDA" infrared adaptor, which
is available for purchase from Medical Specialities Australia. If you

of some satisfied pumpers.
"Since starting with the pump to control my
diabetes things have improved in many ways. I always recommend the

during the nine months of pregnancy was excellent, (HBAIC) 5 ½
for the entire time." - Sophie Benassi, Narrabundah, ACT
"Since I have been on the pump, my insulin ussage
has decreased by about 20-25%; Hypoglycaemic occurances when sleeping
have been reduced dramatically (zero in the last 12 months compared
to very frequently when on injections) and even more significantly
my customised basal delivery has given me greater freedom with diets
comprising of more complex carbohydrates. My HbAic has been excellent
- 5.1." - Tom Bege, Healsville, VIC.

A broken toe didn't stop
Medical Specialties South Australian Territory Manager, Alex Conte
from riding 160Km's in the "Ride to Cure Diabetes" fundraising
ride through the Barossa Valley for juvenile diabetes research.
Alex broke her toe after stubbing it on an ironing board three weeks
prior to her race. She wore a plaster on her foot to help reduce
the pain. The toe still caused her extreme discomfort, but she was
prepared to push through the pain barrier.
"I had started training before the accident and I had some
rides on it before the race and after the break and it hurt like
hell" she said
The amazing mother of two is no stranger to
adversity, living with type 1 diabetes for almost half her life.
"I wear a Cozmo Insulin Pump which feeds me insulin all the
time" she said
"I had to have seven needles a day before switching to the
pump four years ago. The pump gives you a lot more freedom and takes
the guesswork out, as it gives you reminders to test your glucose"
The annual fundraising rides though the Barossa
Valley attracts about 150 cyclists.
Alex rode with five friends, including two
with Type 1 Diabetes as Team Cozmo! This was the third time Alex
has completed the race.
"I'm hoping I get a massage at the end
of the next ride" she said
"The last time I finished the ride, the masseur said her arms
were too tired….how do you think my legs felt?"
"Having my Cozmo pump has changed
my life"
South Australian Danielle King
(8 years old), her teddy bear, Pumpernickel and her Mum, Leanne
all have Type 1 Diabetes. Leanne went on a pump in March 2007.
She found the results so amazing, that after 4 short months
she decided the time was right for Danielle to go on a pump
as well.
Danielle has now been on a pump for 12 months and in that
time she has already noticed a remarkable change for the better
in her health. In no time at all, Danielle has just about
mastered controlling her pump, and more importantly, controlling
her diabetes. After just 12 months, Danielle decided to send
us a letter telling us about her life now that she is on a
Deltec Cozmo insulin pump:
Dear Cozmo,
Having an insulin pump is so great! It gives you blood sugars that
are perfect and you can EASILY give yourself insulin. The cannulas
don't hurt as much as the needles, it's soooooo cool!
Having my Cozmo pump has changed my life, I am allowed to eat what
I want, and when I want, and I reckon that is the best thing about
it. My friends, Jacquie and Stephanie love setting up my blood sugar
monitor and pressing the buttons on my pump. I feel like I have
NOTHING to do.
Having a pump can sometimes be annoying, but if you look on the
bright side, it's great! When I have P.E. at school I change my
temporary rate to sport, so I don't go low. I have now got the responsibility
for my temporary rates because my mum always used to do them. My
mum puts my cannula in, and she is teaching me how to change the
tubing, battery and insulin. My mum also has diabetes, and she has
type 1 like me. She first got a Cozmo pump to try it out. When it
worked for her, I got one.
I don't like having diabetes, except the part where you go low and
get jellybeans! My mum, my old school teacher (who has a son who
has diabetes) and I always do fund raisers for diabetes. I hope
they find a cure.
At my school there are 4 people that have diabetes, and one of them
is getting a pump, so there will be 2 pumps in the school soon!
When I am high I correct, and then half an hour later I check again,
and if I am still high, I give myself another unit. At the age of
8, it is a tiny bit hard, but it's getting easier every day.
We need to find a cure!!!!!!!!!!
From Danielle King.
Danielle is right, we really do need to find
a cure… but until then, thank goodness for Cozmo.
